Are you digital ready?
Every region across Australia will switch to digital TV some time between 2010 and 2013. Digital TV is a free service and provides additional channels and improved viewing quality.
Many TVs are already digital ready, as they have built-in digital tuners. Other people may have a digital set top box, which allows them to receive digital TV. For everyone else, they will need to upgrade their TV and/or set top box in readiness for the switch.

LCD or Plasma?
This is often the biggest question people have when it comes to choosing a new TV. Generally, it’s believed that an LCD TV is best for screen sizes less than 42” (106cm), whilst a Plasma TV is more suited to screen sizes above 42”.
LCD and LED LCD TVs use a separate lighting source behind the LCD panel and perform well in smaller, brightly lit environments such as bedrooms or kitchens.
What’s more, LED LCD TVs feature an LCD panel that’s illuminated by small LED lights. These LED lights don’t cover the entire LCD panel, which means the TV is thinner and your power consumption is reduced.
In contrast, Plasma TVs are better suited to the ambient lighting conditions of larger rooms, such as your lounge room or home theatre. Rather than relying on a separate lighting source like LCD TVs, Plasma uses self-illuminating display technology where each individual pixel controls its own colour and light. These pixels can react to image changes in an instant, which is why Plasma TVs are ideal for sport and movies.
